Why I vet connection requests

I’m republishing some of my social media content - this was posted on LinkedIn earlier this year.

I vet connection requests. I have to.

That's because I've had way too many requests followed by:

- a creepy hello (I'm sure many know the kind I mean)

- a sales pitch (just don't bother)

- an ask (let's get to know each other first)

I'm tired of it. And I won't be entertaining those at all. I can remove a connection pretty quickly if needed.

In addition, if you don't tell me why you want to connect (that "add a note" prompt is there for a reason) and I can't tell at a glance that we have mutual interests, it's going to take me a while.

(For the sake of the "splainers", I don't vet because I think I'm all that. I vet for my own safety. Given what I talk about you should know why. I won't compromise that for anyone.)
